Cleveland Browns QB watch: Could trade price for Jimmy G be this low?
The Factory’s looked at potential trade prices for Jimmy Garoppolo, especially with uncertainty hanging over the Cleveland Browns quarterback position.
During the start of the playoffs, the price seemed high, as a first-round pick and a conditional third- or fourth- rounder.
However, The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami sees the price being much lower. The long-time Bay Area writer predicted the 49ers would get a fourth rounder this year and next year for Jimmy G (subscription required).
And if you needed a kicker…he has Jimmy G being traded to the Steelers.
If Kawakami’s prediction is even close to being true, then the Browns should be ready to pounce. The sum of two mid-rounders is a lot easier to embrace considering Garoppolo’s injury history.
As for the money, he carries a $26.9 cap number, but some off that will be offset under the assumption Baker Mayfield’s $18 million cap number is traded.
Cleveland Browns adding Jimmy G is an upgrade
I know, some of you are mad right now–that’s fine. I’m trying to win the Super Bowl and I do consider Garoppolo an upgrade over Mayfield. He’s a product of the Shanahan system, which is basically what the Browns run.
He’s been to two conference title games and one Super Bowl. He has his flaws, but he’d be coming to a talented team. He’d be good enough to finally get the Browns in the big game.
If Aaron Rodgers wants to come here instead–sounds great. Until he and the Browns shock the world, though, we have to be more realistic and I don’t know how we move ahead with a quarterback that the defense clearly doesn’t trust (Run the **** ball), who also lost the faith of his top two receivers (OBJ and Landry).
As for Jimmy G to the Steelers…does anyone realistically see this playing out? It seems like Pittsburgh would be content to move forward with Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, while securing the future of the position in the draft.
So, we wait, but maybe not for long. Even though the league year doesn’t begin until the middle of March, Kawakami predicted a Jimmy G trade would be reported by the end of this month.
