Anonymous GM shocks, says LeBron James can’t carry team any longer
Every NBA player would like to get “old” the way LeBron James has. He’s third in the NBA in scoring, averaging 28.9 points per game.
Even so, one NBA GM doesn’t believe James is the type of player who can carry a team, according to can carry a team like he’s done in the past, via Rich Buchner.
“LeBron is still good, but he can’t carry you anymore,” Bucher quoted the GM as saying.
This GM made these states in the context of James leaving his 2023 free agency options open with he hope of playing with his son, Bronny.
Whereas teams were falling over themselves to acquire LeBron before, particularly in 2010, that’s just not the case any more, according to the sources Bucher spoke to.
"“I can’t speak for all the other teams, but to plan for a 39-year-old and taking on his son, who I hear is just decent, to make moves for all that, I don’t see it,” the same GM said. “LeBron is still good, but he can’t carry you anymore. The only way I could see doing it is if you needed the box office draw.”"
A lot of fans started looking at the Cavs as LeBron’s new team–for a third time–after the All-Star weekend. Even though it’s a great story, I got the impression James’ public words were messages directed toward the Lakers to improve the roster this summer.
Bucher contends that LeBron’s plan is to get the Lakers to agree to sign Bronny when he’s eligible, while giving James a two-year extension this summer. That means James can stay in Hollywood, where he obviously wanted to be in the summer of 2018, and he can have his son their with him.
As for the comment regarding LeBron carrying a team: Look no farther than this year’s Lakers squad. Anthony Davis has been hurt and Russell Westbrook isn’t working out. LA is 27-32–ninth in the Western Conference.
The drama of LeBron. Fans of the Cavs certainly miss the player, but nobody misses the nonsense that comes with Instagram posts and “fitting in.”
If LeBron comes back on the Cavs term one day, great. If not. Good luck with Bronny, Bron.
