The Cleveland Browns drafted Garrett Wilson with the 13th pick in the most recent mock draft published by Pro Football Focus.

Wilson’s name has been no stranger to the Browns, but it’s always interesting to see who the analytics-heavy website favors.

Heres’s what author Steve Palazzolo had to say about the Browns pick:

"“…Wilson is a slick route runner who has the body control to move the chains using the entire route tree. He has high-volume potential to pair with wide receiver Jarvis Landry and the big-play threats Cleveland has added in recent years.”"

The only receiver off the board by the time Cleveland picked was 6-foot-5 ballhawk Drake London.

Some may have concerns over Wilson’s size (6-foot), but based off some all-too-familiar history with small receivers, it’s no surprise the analytically oriented site favored Wilson’s speed even if he’s not the not the tall, imposing type.

PFF lauded the Browns for trading down and selecting Corey Coleman with the 16th pick in the 2016 draft. The Browns started with the second pick, but with Paul DePodesta in his role as chief strategy officer, the Browns were in tank mode, collecting assets.

I’d make the case that Coleman was the second-worst first-round pick of the expansion era (behind clear front runner Justin Gilbert and running in a dead-heat with Johnny Manziel). He played in just 19 games with the Browns form 2016-2017. He played eight games with the Giants in 2018 after getting cut by Cleveland and has been out of the league ever since.

Other thoughts from the Browns, PFF mock

1. Malik Willis, the QB from Liberty, is really being pushed by Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. In the PFF draft, he goes one spot ahead of where the Browns pick–12th to the Vikings. He’s the first quarterback off the board.

2. Palazzolo didn’t mock another quarterback until No. 32, with UNC’s Sam Howell going to the Lions. The author admitted he played it conservatory with the quarterbacks.

3. I won’t be surprised if the run on quarterbacks never happens. I didn’t have Kenny Pickett going in the first round. I think he’s a good prospect, but a first-round pick? I have doubts.

4. Alabama receiver Jameson Williams is the third receiver off the board. He’s hurt and won’t be able to contribute for at least half a season. His talent will make it very hard for a team to pass him up. Philadelphia takes him here, and Palazzolo contends they can gamble big, because they have two other first rounders.

5. Michigan’s edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson went first to the Jags, while safety Kyle Hamilton (Notre Dame) went to Detroit at No. 2.

I keep reading how safeties aren’t supposed to go that high, but there’s Hamilton, a player routinely mocked in the top five lately.

6. The Ravens took center Tyler Linderbaum 14th. Love it. Take a center, Baltimore.

Next. WR class not as strong as last two years?. dark

7, The Steelers wait on a quarterback, taking Northern Iowa offensive tackle Trevor Penning, instead. Protect the quarterback you do eventually draft, especially if you’re not in love with anyone this year.
