Cleveland Cavaliers center sidelined with a finger injury

The health woes continue for the Cleveland Cavaliers as the team lose big man Jarrett Allen to another injury. Allen initially left the game late in the first quarter of the Cavs’ win against Toronto Raptors at home with a quad contusion.

Things took a turn for the worse, as Cleveland’s 23-year-old All-Star center is now expected to be out indefinitely due to a reported finger fracture after appearing to inadvertently hit his hand on the rim while attempting (and completing) a blocked shot.

Towards the end of the first period, Allen was taken out and promptly headed to the locker room alongside head athletic trainer Steve Spiro and was walking gingerly while visibly nursing a sore thigh.

It wasn’t made known to the public until NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news about the finger injury on Twitter. The team has yet to officially confirm the injury as of writing.

Cavs will need Jarrett Allen back for the postseason

Jarrett Allen is in the midst of his best season yet, tallying averages of 16.3 points off nearly 70 percent shooting from the field, as well as 10.9 boards and 1.3 blocked shots per game en route to his first career All-Star Game selection.

Cleveland is only 2-6 this season without one of the team’s (as well as the league’s) premier rim protectors and will need the rest of the frontcourt to carry the load while Allen is out–just as they did in the win against the Raptors.

The 37-27 Cavaliers, currently three full games ahead of the Raptors and 5.5 games clear of both the Charlotte Hornets and the Brooklyn Nets, will need to rack up as many wins as possible during this crucial month to avoid sliding down to Play-in territory.

Regardless of where the Cleveland Cavaliers lands at the end of the regular season, Jarrett Allen’s availability will be the key to any realistic playoff run. Meanwhile, the team is scheduled to embark on another tough road trip beginning on March 8th that would see stops in Indiana, Miami, and Chicago.
