3 positions the Cleveland Browns need to address in order this offseason

The Cleveland Browns are in need of some improvements this offseason.

The Cleveland Browns have several key positions that need improvement and by now everyone knows it’s between three key areas. Wide receiver, defensive tackle, and defensive end/outside linebacker, aka the “EDGE” but I’ll never call them that.

Ever.

The Browns need, and that’s an important word, to address those three positions before anything else and they can’t be stingy either. The Browns will likely cut Jarvis Landry, freeing up money for the Browns to go get a real number one option but those names are disappearing fast. The Browns could bring back Jadeveon Clowney but even still, would need another pass rush guy. Then the Browns need to actually put money into the defensive tackle spot and not just rely on older, worn down, players to fill the role.

Yet, which order are they in need of being addressed in?

Ranking the Browns’ three most important offseason needs

1. Wide Receiver

The Cleveland Browns can’t afford to leave this offseason without a true number one receiver. With Devante Adams and Chris Godwin, both getting franchises tagged by the Packers and Buccanears respectively, the Browns lost two real options to bring in. The only remaining “number one” that the Browns can realistically get in free agency may be Amari Cooper and he’s a borderline number one at best. With Godwin and Adams off the board, it may force the Browns to go with the obvious pick in the draft and get an elite-looking prospect instead. The team can’t just get someone like Allen Robinson and be ok with their passing game. They need speed at that number one spot and Robinson is barely faster than Jarvis Landry.

2. Defensive Tackle

The Browns need real movers in the middle. The team hasn’t had any real, worthwhile, defensive tackles in some time, and no matter how much you want to say Sheldon Richardson was an improvement over the 2021 crop, that really isn’t a point to brag about. Richardson was mediocre at best and significantly overpaid, just because he wasn’t as bad as his replacements didn’t mean the Browns didn’t need to move on from him. The team needs some real depth-getters upfront to help the defense do their job.

3. Pass Rush (DE/OLB)

With the corners in place, and presumably a pair of adequate safeties, assuming MJ Stewart returns, the Browns no longer need to drop seven guys every time an offense passes. That means you can blitz more, and that’s a key thing for the team. The Browns may bring back Jadeveon Clowney but he’s not a consistent presence against the pass rush and the Browns need to bolster that skill on the defense. Whether it’s at defensive end or linebacker, the Browns need guys who can get to the quarterback.
