The Cleveland Guardians need to help Myles Straw

Bradley Zimmer isn’t going to be an option, heck, most of the outfielders from 2021 were just truly awful. Myles Straw was great, the Cleveland Guardians stole him from the Houston Astros in a move that could only be described as Koby Altman-like. Then again, the Guardians’ front office has largely been intact for a decade or so, so maybe Altman is the one stealing ideas from other Cleveland teams?

Regardless, the Guardians need help at outfield and there are a few names that fit the Guardians price range (no, not a free hot dog and a $2 bill), and that’s what we’re talking about today.

These are three guys the Guardians could put in the outfield, and according to various outlets, the team is looking to possibly sign an outfielder and trade for another. So let’s look at three names to sign.

Three free-agent outfielders the Cleveland Guardians can sign

Joc Pederson

The Guardians would be wise to go after Joc Pederson. Besides having one of the best first names in all of the sports, the former Atlanta Brave has power and the Guardians need that in the outfield. The team is also allegedly interested in him, so it’s clear his potential $10+ million per year contract isn’t going to force the Guardians to shy away.

Delino DeShields

If the Guardians do land Pederson, then they should turn right around and re-sign Delino DeShields. He doesn’t have Pederson’s power but he can hit at least .250, which is huge considering the stats of the outfield over the last few years, while also coming in relatively cheap. I would be all for a Pederson, Straw, DeShields outfield.

Kyle Schwarber

The former Cubbie and every Guardians’ least favorite player in 2016 should be on the team’s radar. Especially if Pederson is. Price-wise the team can afford him but his injury history and inconsistencies at the plate are a problem. He finally made an All-Star game in 2021 and hit 32 home runs on the year.  He does not hit well for average but hits enough dingers that it really doesn’t matter. If the Guardians could swing all three, which is highly unlikely, then the team may not need to do anything else this offseason.
