The Cleveland Cavaliers could use some help from the G-League

The Cleveland Cavaliers have until April 10 to sign players for the rest of the season, specifically the post-season. Due to injuries, most notably to Ricky Rubio, whom the team traded away to land Caris Levert (who is also injured), the team has struggled to score and create off the bench. They also have a need for another shot-altering big, now that Jarrett Allen may be down for some time.

The team also needs more shot creation on the perimeter but the Boston Celtics snagged the guy best suited for that; Nik Stauskas. They’re not even playing him either, what a waste.

The Cavs should not be sitting on their hands, there are a few guys getting it done in the G-League, and with how much coverage the developmental brand of the NBA is getting these days, it’s time to really look into it. With guys like Fred VanVleet coming from the league and Isaiah Thomas getting a second shot in the NBA after tearing up the G-League, who’s to say the Cavs can’t land someone that can’t help them out.

Three players the Cavaliers should sign from the G-Leauge

Mac McClung

Rajon Rondo is a great option on defense, but whatever offensive game he once had is barely a flicker anymore. The team gets little from him, averaging just seven points and five assists per game, on .426/.367/.750 shooting splits. He has value but the Cavs need someone more like Mac McClung. He’s more athletic than Rondo and is shooting .481/.380/.862 from the floor, three-point line, and free-throw respectively, while also dishing out eight assists per game and a BPM of +5.9. Sports scouts and “experts” constantly miss on guys all the time, and the growing consensus from those outside of the elite bubble is that McClung is the real deal.

Petr Cornelie

Petr Cornelie is leading the G-League in rebounds at over 12 per game and has been a solid rim protector with 1.2 blocks per game. Ed Davis is filling in valiantly for an injured Jarrett Allen but we already know what Davis is and isn’t, Cornelie could be an upgrade over Davis.

Jay Huff

The forward/center Jay Huff is someone that can help the Cavs defend the paint. He’s averaging 2.6 blocks per game, and as a teammate with Mac McClung currently, they would likely have some chemistry if the Cavs were to sign both.

Are Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in the Top 10 of their positions?. dark. Next
