3 biggest surprises from 2022 Cleveland Guardians Opening Day roster
2. Cleveland Guardians P Konnor Pilkington skips Triple-A
This isn’t meant as a slight to Konnor Pilkington–the Guards are happy to have him. Can’t believe they were able to get him so Chicago could rent Cesar Hernandez for two months last season.
Anyway, Pilkington hasn’t pitched above Class AA ball, which is slightly concerning. He doesn’t bring major heat with a fastball sitting between 90-92 miles per hour. He does change up speeds very effectively.
He’s going to get the chance to pitch as Cleveland’s starters are still getting into regular season shape. Look for the Shane Bieber’s and Aaron Civale’s of the world to only throw three-to-four innings in their first few starts as they get their arms ready for the long haul.
That means the Guards and other teams are going to need guys to eat up innings. Pilkington is certainly a candidate, while Eli Morgan and Sam Hentges can fill the need as well.
