4. Cleveland Guardians INF Andres Gimenez

Good to see the Guards’ infielder bust out the power stroke, knocking a two-run home run in the top of the ninth during the series opener. He also had a triple in the contest.

Didn’t see much of him in Game No. 2, as Ernie Clement got the start at second.

Hopefully he’s back in the lineup when the Guards host the Giants for the home opener. I worried Gimenez might fall into a trap of not hitting early on, but he’s hanging in there with a .286 average.

Still way too early, but better than .125. Alas, the shortstop storyline will be one to watch throughout the season. Gimenez is clearly a better defender than Rosario, and you wonder how many plays Rosario is leaving on the field that Gimenez can make.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not looking to discard Rosario, he can hit and this team needs proven hitters.
