If the Cleveland Guardians main task in their opening series was to “Guard” against fan apathy setting in too early, the club failed mightily, as the San Francisco Giants earned a three-game sweep.

In front of an Easter Sunday crowd of 9,620, the Guards dropped the series finale, 8-1. When there were fans there, the team managed three measly hits.

Here’s a look at three duds from the series.

1. Dud: Cleveland Guardians DH Franmil Reyes

I looked at Reyes in my Sunday Observations column. He’s been terrible in the early going. He’s the team’s cleanup hitter, yet in 40 at bats, he doesn’t have an extra-base hit. He’s fanned 15 times in that stretch and is hitting .150.

Against the Giants, he went 1-for-12.

Reyes got a rare start in right field for the dreadful series finale, but really, his only job is to hit. So far, he’s not doing it.

On the bright side, if he does get hot, he rarely misses. Unfortunately, there’s no telling when he’s going to break out of his early-season slump.
