Browns Round 3, Pick 78, Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State

Mel Kiper had the pick again and penciled in the Boise State product to fill the void at the slot receiver position.

It certainly seems like a spot the Browns could pick a receiver, especially since Auburn’s Anthony Schwartz was a third-round selection one year ago.

As far as this mock goes, taking Shakir here is a tough pick to digest because the Browns passed on Georgia’s George Pickens in the second round.

Plus, I don’t see the Browns staying position specific considering the emphasis they put on versatility. Could we see Amari Cooper and Anthony Schwartz in the slot at times? It wouldn’t be all that surprising.

Additionally, don’t forget about Demetric Felton. He didn’t have the impact we expected as a rookie, but with team moving on from Jarvis Landry, there’s more snaps available for someone like Felton, who would need to be used exclusively in the slot. We’ll see what year No. 2 holds for him, but he looked like more of a passing weapon than a rusher.

Ultimately, this is where I would flip position groups. Get me a receiver in Round 2 and take you’re developmental defensive lineman here.
