The Cleveland Guardians’ struggles continue in Anaheim against the Angels.

The Cleveland Guardians are struggling offensively, and when they’re not, they’re struggling at the mound. Hopefully, this is just the traditional late-start Terry Francona ball club that Cleveland has fielded since his arrival. Not having a full spring training has hurt, without a doubt.

Seeing Triston McKenzie struggle by giving up four runs isn’t shocking but seeing Shane Bieber give up two home runs and Zach Plesac allowing six earned runs in the same series, that’s a bit perplexing. Again, this is more likely due to the fact that the team is still finding its grove.

Offensively, it’s inconsistency, which isn’t unexpected. Franmil Reyes has been garbage all season but that’s not new, as he’s constantly been a rally-ender. His strikeouts have caught up to him and the team no longer seems to trust him, or fellow big-swinger Bobby Bradley to do anything of value.

Owen Miller and Jose Ramirez continue to be the most reliable guys on the roster, and it’s good to see rookie Richie Palacios step up in the series.

The Cleveland Guardians brought a cold front to the West Coast.

Game 1 – Angels W (3-0)

The offense not producing is a trend in this series (and last). Rookie Richie Palacios went 2-3 and was the lone highlight of the night. Shane Bieber went six but gave up two home runs.

Game 2 – Angels W (4-1)

Myles Straw and Jose Ramirez combined to score the lone run for the Guardians. The offense is sputtering, but Triston McKenzie can’t give up four runs. Not to the Angels.

Game 3 – Angels W (9-5)

The Guardians did everything they needed offensively to get the win against Shohei Ohtani, but Plesac fell apart and doomed the Guardians. All that, despite Jose Ramirez having hit two home runs and four RBIs, while Myles Straw added another RBI via a sacrifice fly.

Game 4 – Angles W (4-1)

Cal Quantrill and Owen Miller caused Quantrill to give up three runs, even if only one is credited to the starter. The defense has been an issue all season so far, possibly another issue due to a shortened spring training.
