3 places Baker Mayfield could still end up after the first round of the NFL Draft
By Chad Porto
The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely out of the Baker Mayfield race.
The Cleveland Browns were probably hoping to move Baker Mayfield during the NFL Draft, but that was when there were multiple teams looking for a quarterback. That list of teams looking for a quarterback is now one less, thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They went out and drafted Kenny Pickett, the university of Pitts quarterback.
While Pickett isn’t a sure thing, they have a squad that now includes a first-round rookie quarterback and the assumed starter in Mitch Trubisky. Tack on Mason Rudolph, and you can see the quarterback room is pretty crowded.
Needless to say, that makes one less suitor for the Browns. Cleveland already had no leverage in the trade market with Mayfield. He wants out, they’re not going to use him and they already sunk his value by claiming he wasn’t an adult. They bungled this process every step of the way.
Yet, there are still some options.
3 teams that may still want the Cleveland Browns’ Baker Mayfield
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Tom Brady’s are going to need to find their next Buccaneer quarterback once the face of their franchise finally does retire. Baker Mayfield could fit in real well down there and there is apparent interest. It would’ve made more sense if Bruce Arians, the quarterback whisperer, was still the head coach but trading for him may still be an option.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks and Mayfield have had varying degrees of interest, and while you can’t trust a team or the leaks that a team put out, they need a quarterback badly. Mayfield would be a nice fit in that offense, but they need a lot more than just a quarterback.
Houston Texans
I don’t believe the Houston Texans see Davis Mills as their starter long-term. The rest of the quarterback’s room includes Kyle Allen and Jeff Driskel. The Texans need a starter and why they aren’t more attached to Mayfield is beyond me.
