Cleveland Browns select WR Michael Woods in the 6th round of the 2022 NFL Draft

The Cleveland Browns got a second WR in the 2022 NFL Draft
The Cleveland Browns have selected wide receiver Michael Woods out of Oklahoma. The 6’1 receiver ran a 4.55 40-yard dash, but across three years only totaled 1,442 yards and 11 touchdowns. Todd McShay believes Woods will only compete for a number four or number five spot on the team.
Woods joins other offensive players like RB Jerome Woods, K Cade York, and WR David Bell. They’ll all mostly be backups or special team players heading into their rookie years. The Browns also drafted DT Darrion Winfrey, DE Alex Wright, and CB Martin Emerson.
The Browns have two more picks left for the seventh round, assuming GM Andrew Berry doesn’t make any more moves. He’s already made a trade once today to send Troy Hill over to the Rams for a 2023 fifth-round pick.
The Cleveland Browns made a mistake trading down and these late picks prove it.
The Cleveland Browns clearly thought they needed the most help at receiver, as they went out and got two of them so far in the draft. While some will try to say that they got good value, or that they addressed the need eventually, people need to realize the later in the draft you go, the less likely that player pans outs.
A second-round pick is far more valuable than a sixth-round pick. You’re far more likely to find a starter in the second round, as opposed to the sixth round. The team is not deep at many positions, with the receiver being the weakest and defensive tackle being the next.
Waiting to get a receiver until the near end of the third, and then again in the sixth, instead of staying put and trying to get the best receiver in the second round to bolster the offense, may just come back to bite them in the rear.
This will be the last review of the 2022 NFL Draft, despite there being two more picks left. They’ll be properly broken down in the 2022 Cleveland Browns draft breakdown and grade coming out tomorrow.
