Round 7, Pick 246 ā C Dawson Deaton (Texas Tech)
I wasnāt that familiar with Dawson Deaton when he was drafted but after reading several draft articles on him, Iām left wondering how he fell to the seventh round. Most of the outlets that covered him said the same thing, āneeds to work on technique but strong and quick enough to play in the NFL.ā
Isnāt coaching a thing in the NFL? If thatās the only thing holding back Deaton from being a success in the NFL, then shouldnāt he have gone higher? Heās a dad, heās a good blocker and he played in a tough conference. Unless thereās something Iām overlooking, and thatās always a possibility, shouldnāt he have gone higher?
Thatās concerning but from what Iāve read and what Iāve seen, he seems like a steal. The Browns need a center, as Nick Harris isnāt the answer, and the newly signed Ethan Pocic wasnāt good enough for the offensive line starved Seattle Seahawks to retain.
Thatās like a starving man saying no to food. If thatās the case, thereās something very concerning there.
Deaton may have a chance to compete for a starting job in Cleveland with how things look post-draft. Maybe Pocic is Wyatt Teller 2.0 and just needs a good offensive line coach to get the most out of him. Maybe thereās a reason why a second-round pick, on a bad offensive line, got let go of too.
