The drama that would be a Baker Mayfield vs. Cleveland Browns season opener would be incredible.

Pro sports is entertainment. Like with all forms of entertainment, the emotional stakes are what drive the action. It only matters as much as it does because of the inherent drama that comes with the situation. It’s what separates Tom Brady’s miracle comeback against the Falcons in the Super Bowl from the dude in your local park who hit a hacky sack in the air 200 straight times. No one is invested in the park guy but the Super Bowl? Drama is what matters. So yes, we need to see Baker Mayfield as a Panther to start the season against the Cleveland Browns.

It’s not about showing up the Browns or beating down on Mayfield to prove he was never the guy, to begin with, but it’s about the duality of both sides of the aisle getting a chance to flex on one another.

Whether you’re Team Mayfield or Team Anyone, this is a wild idea that offers up the potential for a week, nay a month’s worth of storylines to lead into the game.

And the idea really got traction not from anyone on the Cleveland Browns side of things, but from the Cleveland Cavaliers beat writer, Chris Fedor.

Baker vs. The Browns would be iconic if it’s a shootout that is

Whether you’re rooting for the Browns or rooting for them to fail due to the Deshaun Watson and 25 accusations of it all, the Mayfield vs. Browns narrative would be huge. The fanbase would be split, fans would be angry over stupid things, and everyone would love the drama that comes with it.

As long as it doesn’t get out of hand.

Could you imagine if the Browns and Mayfield had a shootout to open the season? Doesn’t matter how you want that to go, it would be high drama and high drama is what sports are all about. Granted, that’s the best-case scenario.

More than likely Mayfield doesn’t go to Carolina, nor would he be ready to start the season if he did, just knowing how petty Andrew Berry is being about moving him.

But man, it would be fun to watch.
