Stop with the Cam Reddish propaganda, the Cleveland Cavaliers should avoid him at all cost

The Cleveland Cavaliers would be foolish to trade for Cam Reddish.

Sometimes there’s an aura about a guy that gets bigger than his actual talents. People live and die based on their perception of him, and no matter how many times he’s failed, people will not give up on him. Enter Cam Reddish. Despite being benched in New York after a mid-season trade, where he was barely getting time with the Hawks,  he is still someone people want the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade for.

I don’t get why. He’s not that good. Certainly not worth a second-round draft pick, let alone a first. In his three years in the NBA, Reddish has never posted a positive RAPTOR score offensively. He has a true shooting percentage of just 51.2%, well below the 56.1% league average.

He has an offensive BPM of -2.6 for his career, and just posted a -2.0 for his stint in New York. He has a DBM of -0.5 and considering his defense is what everyone raves about, is pretty abysmal. His overall BPM is -3.1 for his career. He’s never been a positive player in his three years in the NBA.

The Cleveland Cavaliers shouldn’t fall for the “potential” of Cam Reddish

When a player shows you who they are, believe it. Luka Doncic was always going to be a franchise guy. Trae Young was always going to be a dude who could score in volume but little else. Reddish has proven that he’s not that good at the game of basketball.

The Hawks and Knicks have already given up on Reddish, despite everyone outside of the NBA screaming “but his potential!”

Listen, potential only exists until someone puts the ball on the court. Then potential no longer matters. Only execution and reputation matter after that point. Reddish’s “potential” is burning a lot of teams of assets and the Cavaliers need to be better than the Hawks and Knicks and avoid this man at all costs.

If he couldn’t catch on in Atlanta, who needs defensive players, or in New York, where defensive players thrive, then why would it be better for him in Cleveland?

He’s a bad offensive player, there’s no defending that. He’s a career 39% shooter from inside the arc. Yes, that’s on par with Ricky Rubio’s numbers, but keep this in mind; Reddish is not a play-maker or a ball-handler. He doesn’t offer up anything else but his ability (or lack thereof) to score.

Rubio does. Rubio for a point guard rebounds very well, plays great defense, and is one of the league’s best passers. Reddish is none of those things.

If Reddish ends up on the open market as a free agent, maybe Cleveland can sign him to a deal.

The Charge are always looking for new players.
