Series Review: Tigers take rain-shortened series against Guardians
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Guardians need to get their stuff together.
The Cleveland Guardians were supposed to start off this stretch of games with a huge series win against the Detroit Tigers and that did not happen. The combined lack of production from the lineup and the issues with the starting pitching have started to really take their toll. The Guards are now 19-24, and despite the uneven performances, they’re a top offense in the league still.
The pitching is starting to come together, especially with Shane Bieber and Triston McKenzie. Yet, the inconsistency and drop-off with the offense are what’s dooming this team. Some guys are bouncing back, like Ernie Clement and Amed Rosario, but others like Myles Straw and Steven Kwan are currently struggling at the moment.
The Guardians need to get their performances more evened out if they’re going to become a playoff team.
The Cleveland Guardians’ struggles continued with their trip to Detroit
Game 1 – Tigers win (4-3)
Guardians gave up three quick runs in the early part of the game but rallied in the 3rd to tie the game. Owen Miller stepped up but in a recurring trend for the Guardians this year, the team failed to mount any other real offense and ended up pooching the game in the 9th.
Game 2 – Postponed
The Guardians lead the league with postponements. Probably.
Game 3 – Guardians win (8-1)
Jose Ramirez and Shane Bieber both had huge games for the Guardians in their lone win in Detroit. The Guards’ offense looked good and Emmanuel Clase shut the door hard. Too bad it was the best this series saw.
Game 4 – Tigers win (2-1)
The Guardians out-hit the Tigers, but two of the Tigers’ four hits were home runs and that is enough to sink the Guardians.
