The Cleveland Guardians took a series they needed against the Oakland A’s thanks to Jose Ramirez.

The Cleveland Guardians did exactly what they had to do against the Oakland Athletics in their four-game series this weekend. Taking three games out of four, the Guards upped their record to 29-27, and remain right behind the Minnesota Twins for the AL Central.

Jose Ramirez had a big series and puts himself right in the AL MVP race and is an easy favorite to make the AL All-Star Team this year. He won’t be alone, as the offense and pitching staff are finally coming together.

This is good because these games against the A’s were important to set the ship straight. The Guards go from a pretty easy schedule to a very rough schedule. Cleveland moves to Denver on Tuesday, taking on the Colorado Rockies in a very winnable series, but then things get nasty.

They’re away against the Dodgers, and the Twins, and then they’re back home from the Red Sox, the Twins, and the Yankees before things switch to an AL Central flavor for a while.

Guardians get a much-needed series win over the A’s

Game 1 – Guardians Win (8-4)

The Guardians had an eighth-inning rally, which saw them take the lead in what was a tied game at four-all. Konnor Pilkington had his best outing of the season, with Richie Palacios having a two-RBI ball game.

Game 2 – Guardians Win (3-2)

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth, the Guardians proved they aren’t the same team they were last year, mounting a comeback to win 3-2. Timely plays by Jose Ramirez, Owen Miller, and Luke Maile led the charge.

Game 3 – Athletics Win (10-5)

An error by Josh Naylor sunk a solid start by Zach Plesac, resulting in a five-run seventh, where the A’s took a two-run lead. The Guardians just couldn’t mount a comeback after that.

Game 4 – Guardians Win (6-3)

Cal Quantrill shut the A’s down early, allowing for Jose Ramirez to have an impressive three-RBI game to close out the series.
