Lamar Stevens

Like with Dean Wade, Lamar Stevens is one of the better bench guys in Cleveland who could not only do well as a reservist with the Guardians but could also be a borderline starter on another team that needs an affordable or young option.

Stevens and Wade are close to being the same age, but Stevens is not as good as Wade defensively as a pure low-post guy. What he does better, however, is that he’s more versatile as a defender. Wade is fine on the wing, but Stevens is good. When they switch, Wade is better in the low-post but that’s what makes them so effective together.

Offensively, Stevens is a good interior scorer as well, but he struggles from outside. If the Cavs are looking at another combo forward, Stevens, just like Wade, could be seeing even less action than in 2021-2022 or outright traded as part of a major package.

The hope ist he Cavs keep both Wade and Stevens but with three picks, a few free agents, and a potential trade, there’s every chance that at least six new players suit up with the Cavaliers in 2022-2022.

That’s going to hurt a lot of people’s minutes, but maybe none more so than Stevens, who lacks an exterior offensive game to make him more valuable.
