3 Cleveland Guardians not named Jose Ramirez making a case for the All-Star Game
By Chad Porto
3 Cleveland Guardians who are making a case for the All-Star game who aren’t Jose Ramirez (and Shane Bieber).
The Cleveland Guardians are once again chasing the playoffs and are doing so behind Jose Ramirez who is on pace to have maybe the greatest single season by a Cleveland Guardians hitter ever. The team is once again in the hunt for the AL Central title, and with any luck, some healthier lineups, and maybe one nice trade, could be a contender for the World Series as well.
Helping Ramirez on the way is maybe the youngest and best team the Guardians have ever had. Sure, there are teams that have been younger, and others who have been better, but few are as young or as good as the 2022 squad.
Some of those guys are looking at an All-Star bid this year. Now, we know Ramirez and Bieber are always in contention to make it, but here are just three of the names who should be on their way if things continue as they’ve been.
Three Cleveland Guardians who should be heading to the All-Star Game in 2022
Andres Gimenez
The 22-year-old is proving how smart the Guardians are by picking him up in the Francisco Lindor deal. He’s hitting .304 with seven home runs, 31 RBIs, and 22 runs in just 168 at-bats. While Lindor has slightly better power stats, Gimenez is out-hitting him at the plate. Not bad for a guy who’s making significantly less than Lindor.
Cal Quantrill
Cal Quantrill is tied with Bieber for most innings pitched on the team, while sporting a 3.77 ERA and 44 strikeouts. He’s been among the most reliable pitchers on this team and while his ERa is slipping away from All-Star worthy, I have little doubt he can lower it before July.
Triston McKenzie
If you were to ask me in February if Triston McKenzie could be having the best season of any Guardians starting pitchers I would’ve said “yes, duh”. McKenzie’s ascent isn’t unexpected. He’s extremely talented. So his team-leading 2.96 ERA among starters should not shock anyone. His strikeouts are up to, with 61 so far in just 70 innings. He’s not only an All-Star nominee but the Guardians’ top contender for the AL Cy Young.
