The Cleveland Cavaliers have made their first-round draft pick.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had the 14th pick in the NBA Draft and after much bluster and a lot of rumors, the team has apparently decided to pick Ochai Agabaji in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Agbaji is a 6’5 guard, who is coming into Cleveland with a solid three-point shot and a good ability to get to the rim but he lacks consistency from the free-throw line and isn’t much of a passer, which will likely see him play more shooting guard.

One of the few four-year players in the NBA Draft, Agbaji came as a shock to a lot in the fandom, since many expected a more flashy pick at this point in the draft, especially with AJ Griffin still on the board at the time of the Cavaliers selection.

Ocha Agbaji will be the Cleveland Cavaliers prospect of the future

Around the time of Agbaji’s selection, the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, and New York Knicks were shuffling around players at a rapid pace. The Cavaliers, however, will not be one of those teams, as they’re content with Agbaji and specifically used the pick to draft him. Not to draft him and then trade him to somewhere else.

This is according to Chris Fedor.

It seems unlikely that Agbaji will get a lot of minutes as a rookie if the Cavs are able to sign Ricky Rubio and re-sign Collin Sexton. If they’re able to do just that, then Agbaji will likely come off the bench for a year or two, if he gets any time at all.

This idea of selecting a “project” has long been rumored and it seems like it’s coming to fruition with this pick. He’s more polished than most but he’s looking at a long wait time to get onto the ride.
