Cleveland Guardians’ third basemen, Jose Ramirez, has joined some elite company this week.

Jose Ramirez has officially etched his way into an exclusive club with the Cleveland Guardians, as he’s now tied for 10th place in the team’s history with most extra-base hits. He and Albert Belle came into Wednesday’s game tied at 481.

Now only Manny Ramirez, Lou Boudreau, Carlos Santana, Nap Lajoie, Ken Keltner, Hal Trsosky, Jim Thome, Travis speaker and Earl Averill (724) have more than Ramirez. It seems unlikely he’ll hit Averill’s mark, assuming he plays out his entire career with the Guardians but he does have a good shot at hitting 600.

This isn’t some nothing stat either. This is a big deal as it’s all doubles, triples, and home runs combined, and if he keeps raking in the doubles and home runs over the next few years, he may shoot up this list.

So, with that said, where does Ramirez rank all time as a hitter with the Guardians?

Where does Jose Ramirez rank in Cleveland Guardians’ history?

If we’re looking at his impact as an offensive player, we have to know where he ranks among the most important statistical categories going. As of Wednesday, June 29, 2023, Ramirez currently ranks, 10th in career WAR position (37.7), 9th in WAR offensive (35.6), 30th in games played (1049), 19th in runs scored (652), 28th in hits (1065), 17th in Total Bases (1936), 11th in doubles (270), 42 in triples (32), 12th in home runs (179),17th RBIs (603), 24th in walks (439), 7th Stolen bases  (166), T-10 in slugging with Travis Hafner (.509), and 15th OPS (.865).

He’s in the Top 50 of nearly every category and the Top 30 of many more. I don’t think calling him a Top 10 offensive player in Guardians history is accurate or even fair at the moment. Though, I’d concede to an easy Top 20 spot.

I don’t put as much weight on the WAR stat as others, but seeing him as high as he is with stolen bases, slugging, and OPS, it kinda shows you just how good he really is. He’s even number one in “Power-Speed” with 172.3. Power-Speed is a sabermetric stat that combines home runs and stolen bases into a needlessly lame mathematical equation. Though, that said, he’s above Kenny Lofton, Joe Carter, and Grady Sizemore, so that says something.

So, I would say right now, no-doubter, Ramirez is a Top 20 hitter in Guardians history. He may even be closer to the Top 10 than not, but without going through every hitter ever who played for the Guards, I can’t say for sure where he would land.
