The Cleveland Guardians got swept by the Detroit Tigers in pathetic fashion.

The Cleveland Guardian fell to .500 In what can only be described as a pathetic showing against the Detroit Tigers. The Guards went to Detroit and got swept by the perpetually rebuilding Tigers, capping off a pathetic run for this team. The Guards are just 4 -12 in their last 16.

The team may need to decide if they’re buying or not at the deadline at this point, as being 40-40 after a series they were supposed to win may have shaken the office’s faith in this club for the season.

They’re still only five games back as of press-time, so it’s not like they can’t get back into the hunt for the Divisional Title.

Josh Naylor getting hurt and missing three of the four games didn’t help the Guardians, and it’s clear the thumb injury to Jose Ramirez is truly affecting him. The Guardians may be better served sitting him until and through the All-Star break to see if he can’t rehab his thumb and get back to full strength.

Detroit Tigers sweep the Cleveland Guardians

Series Review

Game 1 – Tigers Win (4-1)

Zach Plesac only gave up two runs, but the bullpen fell apart on him, and the offense wasn’t there to pick him up. The team mustered just two hits.

Game 2 – Tigers Win (5-3)

Konnor Pilkington had a solid outing but as with the first game, the bullpen once again gave up too many runs for the Guardians’ offense to overcome. They did muster six hits and three RBIs but there was no come-from-behind magic this time. What made this one even worse was the Guards had a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Game 3 – Tigers Win (11-4)

The offense finally had a semblance of life against the Tigers, putting up 11 hits but they left nine on base, which is a problem they’ve had in years past. At least Cal Quantrill had another solid outing, that was done in by the bullpen. At least the bullpen was consistent throughout the series. That’s something.

Game 4- Tigers Win (8-2)

Shane Bieber tanked the game before things got going, giving up five total runs in less than six innings. Franmil Reyes had a home run, so that’s something.

Series Standout

No one, they got swept by the Detroit Tigers.

Next. 3 catchers the Cleveland Guardians need to target at the deadline. dark
