The Cleveland Cavaliers showed up ready to play but Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns stole the headlines.

The Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers are on the other side of the city from one another, but Myles Garrett is finding a way to bring the two sides together by repping the Cavs during the Summer League.

Garrett is well known for his love of basketball and played in the celebrity All-Star Game when the NBA All-Star Game came to Cleveland for the 2021-2022 season. He’s known for his love of dunking and considering he’s not that tall for a basketball player, “just” 6’4, and very heavy, his dunks are a thing that fans react to.

So when Garrett rolled up to the Cavs Summer League game against the Denver Nuggets and took the court during the pre-game warmups, fans were demanding to see the Pro Bowl defensive end take the court alongside the rest of the youngsters with the Cavs.

Of course, the Browns would never risk Garrett getting hurt by letting him play in the Summer League, it is a fun thought to think about. He does have hops, though would that be enough to warrant giving him playing time in the Summer League?

An NFL Icon playing in the Summer League isn’t as odd as you think

While it is unlikely that Garrett ever plays in the NBA Summer League, it wouldn’t be the first time that an NFL icon played in the Summer League. 20 years ago, a future Hall of Famer took a brief sabbatical from the Kansas City Chiefs to play hoops with his hometown Miami Heat.

Of course, we’re talking about tight end legend, Tony Gonzales.

If you don’t think Gonzales could’ve been a great player, Pat Riley, the architect of many great NBA teams, outright claimed that Gonzales could’ve had a 10-year career at least in the NBA. Others have said Gonzales could rebound so well, that he could’ve started.

Garrett is more athletic than Gonzales, and had he gone into the NBA, he could’ve probably made an NBA team with his size, strength, speed, and work ethic.
