The Cleveland Guardians split a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The Cleveland Guardians started off the series with those dastardly Chicago White Sox by winning the first two games. The first being on Monday night and the second were the first of a double-header on Tuesday. Then the late game and Wednesday rolled around to a very less desirable set of results.

Splitting the series wasn’t great, but that wasn’t all. Nolan Jones, after having a great debut series struggled in three of the four games against the Sox. Managerial issues popped up, with Terry Francona sitting the currently red-hot Myles Straw for the second game of the double-header.

Neither situation helped the team any. Franmil Reyes continues to be up and down. Hitting .300 for the series but striking out five times. Overall the team continues to be ineffective at driving in runs and that was the name of the game for the second half of the series.

Chicago Whitesox and Cleveland Guardians series review

Game 1 –  Guardians Win (8-4)

Nolan Jones and Myles Straw combined for seven RBIs between them on the day, and while Cal Quantrill wasn’t perfect, giving up four runs, he did manage to get the team the “W” by pitching well enough.

Game 2 – Guardians Win (4-1)

Shane Bieber finally looks like Shane Bieber, as the ace went nine innings, striking out seven, and only giving up three hits in a game the Guardians needed. Jose Ramirez and Amed Rosario drove in the team’s four runs.

Game 3 – White Sox Win (7-0)

Despite having one less hit than the White Sox, the Guardians mustered no runs on eight hits, spoiling Konnor Pilkington’s solid day.

Game 4 – White Sox Win (2-1)

An error was the only reason the Guardians scored on Wednesday, with the team once again being unable to overcome solid pitching. Aaron Civale ended the day by getting hurt right after the first inning, meaning the bullpen had to do some serious work to stay in the game.
