5 major free agents linked to the Cleveland Browns currently

The Cleveland Browns are being linked to five current free agents
The Cleveland Browns aren’t done yet with trying to upgrade their roster. The team is working very hard to try and field the best team possible for the upcoming 2022 season and that means constantly looking under every rock and in every nook to try and find players who can help the roster.
The Browns are in need of help at several positions but the team only seems to be looking at two, defensive tackle and quarterback. The quarterback position on its own is fine, talent-wise, but troublesome outside of that. The defensive tackles are a different story entirely, as they are mostly unproven commodities that may be a problem heading into the season.
The Browns know this, and that’s why they’re looking at these positions most. That doesn’t mean that other positions, like corner, safety and receiver don’t need help, as they absolutely do. Yet, they’re not looking at guys like Joe Haden or a veteran wide receiver just yet.
So instead, these are the five names most associated with the team.
Looking at the five major free agents on the Cleveland Browns’ radar
AJ McCarron
It’s ironic that AJ McCarron is on this list, due to the fact that had it not been for a botched trade deadline deal, he would’ve been a Cleveland Brown in 2017. Yet, “the Browns is the Browns” and the deal wasn’t completed in time, leading to the team being without a viable option at quarterback for the rest of the season. He’s proven to not be a very good quarterback and would hardly be a better option over Jacoby Brissett.
Josh Rosen
Remember that scene in “Little Giants”, where Rick Moranis is literally recruiting any kid with a pulse? “You ever play football?” “No”. “Do you like football?” “No.” “Do you want to play football?” “No”. “Great, you can be on our team.” That’s the point we’ve gotten to when Josh Rosen is the name on the quarterback list. Rosen might be a good player, god knows he’s never been given a shot, but I’d rather him show off his skills as a starter in the USFL/CFL/XFL than toil way on a practice squad.
(*Update 8:16 PM – Rosen has officially been signed by the Browns*)
Cam Newton
This one seems to be more a rumor than anything, but there were rumblings that the Browns had an interest in Cam Newton, an interest that made sense for both sides. He’s not a great thrower anymore, or ever…, but he can still make plays with his legs. I’d rather have Newton than Brissett in a two or three-game stretch. I’d rather have Jared Goff for a season, so let’s not get crazy here about over-valuing either Newton or Brissett.
Sheldon Richardson
The only former Cleveland Browns player is on this list, and the aging defensive tackle makes sense. He’s not worth any of the last few contracts, but if he came in near, or on the veteran’s minimum, I think there’d be value there. Sheldon Richardson is a borderline starter in the league anymore but for the Browns, that may just be good enough considering the talent on the roster currently.
Ndamukong Suh
The rumors on Ndamukong Suh remain just that, rumors, with a new report saying the Browns favor Ricardson over Suh. Who knows how true that is, the NFL is known for leaking fake reports to affect negotiations. it’s very possible that Andrew Berry and the company leaked that story to try and get leverage on negotiations. Either way, the Browns need defensive tackles, so as Tulio and Miguel would say; “Both. Both is good”.
