The Cleveland Guardians shouldn’t be sellers at the deadline but if they were, these three names make the most sense.

The MLB Trade Deadline is right around the corner and that means that baseball fans will wait eagerly on August 2nd to see if their team makes any moves that make them better. It’s always an agonizing experience for many teams fans whose teams are on the cusp of competing. Does your team go for it, and get better? Or do they sell off some pieces this year so they’re better next year? That’s the issue the Cleveland Guardians find themselves in.

They’re a good team, but inconsistent. They’re only a handful of games out of the AL Central Title but only a few games above .500 as well. The team has some minor pieces that could end up being great trade bait for a young player or some bullpen help.

Plus, there’s the idea of trading Shane Beiber and getting a huge haul in return. So with that said, we’re going to look at the three most likely players to get traded at the deadline.

These are three players who make the most sense to trade

Bryan Shaw

I’m a Bryan Shaw guy. He’s a solid middle reliever and is still solid even this year. He’s older, and his stuff isn’t as zesty as he used to be, but a pitcher’s ERAs aren’t as accurate for them as it is a starter, as relievers don’t throw nearly as many innings, making their ERAs less an indication on talent and more an indication on use. Yes, Shaw has a 5.29 ERA currently, but he’s also 2nd on the team among all pitchers in appearances (39). He’s not going to fetch you a Top 10 prospect, but you could get a Michael Brantley (aka player to be named later) and that may be enough of a reason to part with him.

Shane Bieber

We’ve talked about Bieber before, and the idea behind trading him now is that his value is at its peak, yet his performance is petering out. He’s become a tad inconsistent and you could easily extend the club’s window for competing by an additional 5-7 years on top of the current window by making this trade. It isn’t an easy move, but it’s not a team-killer like some would have you believe. Zach Plesac would also be on this list, but you’re not trading both names in the same season.

Franmil Reyes

I’m not sure what Franmil Reyes can fetch you. Maybe a Double-A prospect with some skills? I think Shaw might be able to fetch you a future everyday starter, but I’m not sure what Reyes can. Maybe a Single-A reliever? That might be enough for me.
