The Cleveland Guardians and Arizona Diamondbacks slugged it out.

The Cleveland Guardians finished off the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon, finishing the series and improving their division-leading win percentage at home. The Guardians are now 27-20 at home, or a winning percentage of 57.44%, the best in the AL Central for any team at home.

The Twins defeated the Tigers to keep a one-game lead over the Guardians who have not lost a series since they went to Kansas City in early July. While the Diamondbacks were not an easy team to beat, despite their record, the Guardians are going to need to have to be ready as the Houston Astros are up next on Thursday.

The Guardians have a very winnable second-half schedule, with Houston, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the San Deigo Padres being the only upper-echelon teams to worry about for the rest of the year. If the Guardians do their jobs against the eight remaining series against AL Central opponents, the Guards will be playing baseball in the postseason.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Arizona Diamondbacks series review

Game 1 – Guardians Win (6-5)

The Cleveland Guardians were able to fend off the Arizona Diamondbacks in extra innings, rallying back from one in the 10th, to win it in the 11th. Cal Quantrill got shellshocked, giving up four runs on two home runs.

Game 2 – Diamondbacks Win (6-3)

A first-inning home run once again bit Triston McKenzie, putting the Guards down 3-0 to start the game. The team tried to rally but despite a two-RBI game from Luke Maile, the team couldn’t muster enough runs.

Game 3 – Guardians Win (7-4)

Shane Bieber had a solid outing, striking out eight, with James Karinchak continuing to regain his old form in relief. Amed Rosario and Oscar Gonzalez both had two RBI on the day.
