5 Cleveland Browns playing for their spot on the team
By Chad Porto
These five Cleveland Browns need a good showing vs. the Philadelphia Eagles to survive another round.
The Cleveland Browns make more moves than a six-year-old cheating at the game of Life. Holy heck, the size of Andrew Berry’s phone bill must be as tall as Johnny Manziel…Ok, so not that tall then. Despite that, the Browns are a waiver wire wizard and they are constantly claiming anyone and everyone they can while signing guys no one has ever heard of.
They’re looking for that gem. The next Cameron Wake or Warren Moon. Despite that, the odds that a guy will make the team this late into training camp after just being signed is not the most likely of things. Sure, there’s always a chance, but I wouldn’t recommend putting money on those chances.
We already know that unless you’re intentionally being rested, you’re not going to get cut. Guys like Nick Chubb, Wyatt Teller, and Myles Garrett, they’re not going anywhere. Guys, who are fringe players? Well, the release of Sheldon Day just proved to us that unless you’re a lock to play, your spot is not guaranteed.
So these five players need to put in a great effort on Sunday to fight on for another week.
Five Cleveland Browns players who are on the bubble
Wyatt Miller
First in, first out, that’s usually how it goes. Wyatt Miller is a tackle, so that’s not going to help him any. The Browns need help at center, so unless the plan is to see what Miller can do at guard while moving a guard inside, then Miller’s time with Cleveland won’t be long.
Easop Winston
Easop Winston was just brought in as well but the former Saints’ receiver isn’t a big play guy. He’s got speed upon speed, but that’s it. If we learned nothing else from Anthony Schwartz, just being fast isn’t good enough.
Ethan Pocic
I thought Ethan Pocic was going to be a solid addition, and that his time in Seattle was marred by poorly performing teammates. Nope, turns out he was the poorly performing teammate. Pocic may survive this round of cuts due to the lack of guys at the position but if the Browns think they have anyone else, they’ll cut Pocic.
Chris Odom
Again, another case of a late arrival within the Browns. Chris Odom may be a fine backup, but he’s not someone the team drafted and the equity in his acquisition is next to nothing. Cutting him won’t make Andrew Berry look bad, like if the team moved on from a Jordan Elliot type.
Jordan Kunaszyk
I’ve been impressed with Jordan Kunaszyk and think he could be a fringe starter for the Browns, but like with everyone else here on this list (besides Pocic), the team isn’t likely to cut someone they put more money and draft picks into just to keep a guy like Kunaszyk.
