The Cleveland Browns defense saw some nice names step up against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cleveland Browns defense has some holes, and then some more holes, and then lastly, some even more holes. The team as a whole is relying heavily on Andrew Berry-drafted players at three various positions; safety, linebacker, and defensive tackle. The Browns have a few key guys who are expected to carry the defense. Your Myles Garrett’s, and Denzel Ward types.

But they aren’t loaded with talent that good. The safeties are a problem, the defensive tackles are inconsistent, and while Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is someone who has the potential to be a fairly good player, the rest of the linebacking corp lack any real playmakers.

So it’s to see some guys make some plays against the Eagles on Sunday. The team will need to rely on some of these guys to succeed in 2022, and hopefully, one game isn’t all they have to offer.

Glen Logan

This is the first time all offseason or preseason that I think I mentioned Glen Logan’s name. Logan came in for Tommy Togiai in the first half of the game and played very well. Togiai and Perrion Winfrey struggled to be consistent. At times swallowing gaps, and other times getting moved around the field like they were an air hockey puck. Logan provided some stability though how much is anyone’s guess.

Martin Emerson

While so many players were looking to just catch players, Martin Emerson really stood out. The cornerback made sure his presence was known against the run, and the battle for the fourth corner spot seems to be over. Heck, I’d even consider starting Emerson at safety should the current crop struggle.

Tony Fields

He was drafted as sort of a tag-team player for Owusu-Koramoah. Both men were hybrid players who could play linebacker or safety in 2021 but Fields was nowhere to be seen as a rookie. This may have been the best action put to film of Fields’ career with the Browns so far. Yes, it’s only preseason but it’s a lot better than the “none” he produced last year.

Next. The good and the bad from the Cleveland Browns game against the Philadelphia Eagles. dark
