The Cleveland Guardians dropped their first series since early July, losing to the Seattle Mariners three games to one.
The last time the Cleveland Guardians lost a series was on July 10 against the Kansas City Royals. Since then, the Guards have won or tied 12 straight series. Their 3-1 series loss against the Mariners would have been their 13th in a row had they tied or won the matchup.
The Guardians are 67-59 and currently have a two-game lead over the Minnesota Twins, with a massive series against the surprising Baltimore Orioles up next. This starts a defining stretch of games for the Cleveland squad.
With Baltimore, a rematch with Seattle, and a six-game stretch against the Twins and Royals in must-win contests. Over the last stretch of games, they have two five-game series. One against the Twins and one against the Royals to close the season. Whether or not the Guardians win the AL Central will play out in real-time.
They control their own destiny, let’s just hope she isn’t too hard to handle.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Seattle Mariners series review
Game 1 – Mariners Win (3-1)
Despite a solid outing from Triston McKenzie, the Guardians bats went cold, partly due to the extended west-coast swing. Mustering only six hits, most of that came in the first inning.
Game 2 – Mariners Win (3-2)
The Guardians took this game to extra innings behind a strong bullpen outing, led by James Karinchak, but an 11th-inning collapse by Nick Sandlin and Emmanuel Clase doomed the Guards.
Game 3 – Guardians Win (4-3)
Late-inning heroics again lead the Guardians to a win, with Jose Ramirez, Josh Naylor, and Andres Gimenez leading the late-game comeback.
Game 4 – Mariners Win (4-0)
When the bats go quiet, there’s not much else you can expect from a game like this. Despite the bemoaning of Owen Miller’s defense, this game was lost at the plate, not in the field.
