Donovan Mitchell may be as happy to be here as the Cleveland Cavaliers faithful are to have him.

If you’re unsure how to feel about the Cleveland Cavaliers landing Donovan Mitchell, you very well may change your tune when you hear all about how he feels about being in the great state of Ohio. For those who just got back from their tour of Antarctica and don’t know what’s been going on the last few days, let’s catch you up first.

The Cavs landed a Top-20 player in Donovan Mitchell this past week and did so by only giving up Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji, and three unprotected first-round draft picks. There are also two pick swaps, but the Cavs aren’t expected to be worse than the Jazz, so those aren’t going to matter.

All things being even, the Cavs made out like bandits. They got a potential All-NBA player, and only gave up a sixth-man, a versatile forward, an unknown rookie, and three draft picks that will all be in the last eight picks of the first round. That’s a steal.

Yet, the trade wouldn’t matter if Mitchell didn’t want to be in Cleveland, and while he may be a New York native, Michell is very much all in on Cleveland.

When he found out about the trade to the Cavs and that the team didn’t give up Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, or Kevin Love to get him, Mitchell went bonkers on the golf course.

Donovan Mitchell is throwing himself into his love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio

Mitchell has ties to the Cavs, at least as far as his NBA fandom goes. Mitchell recently posted a picture on Twitter of him wearing a LeBron James jersey from James’ first stint with the team, thus confirming his fandom of the Cavs dating back to his days as a “yute”.

That’s not all, however, as Mithcell has made it abundantly clear that he’s all about the Buckeye state, picking them against Notre Dame in their epic clash on Saturday night.

Lastly, it’s very apparent that Mitchell isn’t coming to this team without some serious ties already in place. While they didn’t spend long together, Mitchell and Ricky Rubio were quite close during their time together with the Utah Jazz. While on paper Mitchell seemed like a lock for the New York Knicks due to his proximity, he seems quite content with the Cavs.

The upcoming season is going to be madness.
