The Cleveland Guardians are slumping badly and are now tied for first in the AL Central.

Who knew the dog days of summer bled into September? The Cleveland Guardians sure didn’t as they walked right into a hard cross from the Seattle Mariners for the second time in less than 10 days. The Mariners took the first series from the Guards 2-1 in Seattle, and came to Cleveland for the rematch, sweeping the slumping Guardians.

The issue seems to be a lack of power, as the team is hitting still. They either out-hit or tied the Mariners each game, racking up nine hits per game across the series. The Mariners were able to control the series due to the long-ball, hitting five home runs, all solo shots.

The Guards didn’t hit any, nor did they strike out. They just had no power to combat the Mariners. Due to this shocking lack of power, the Guards are now tied with the Minnesota Twins for first. While the Guardians have lost three straight series and are 2-8 in their last 10, there is good news; the schedule.

The Guardians have the Royals for three games which should help right the ship. The Twins have a four-game set with the New York Yankees and the White Sox, who are only two behind in the division, have the Mariners.

If things go according to plan, the Guards could have a 3.5-game lead over the Twins in a matter of days.

Cleveland Guardians get swept by the Seattle Mariners

Game 1 – Mariners Win (6-1)

The Guardians pitching failed, while the Mariners’ bats did not. On the other side of the plate, Cody Morris made his big-league debut and got absolutely lit up. Not a great day.

Game 2 – Mariners Win (4-0)

A better day than Game 1 but still not a good day. Inconsistent hitting and no power doomed the Guards as the Mariners took another. Xzavion Curry made his second start of his career and did not look good.

Game 3 – Mariners Win (6-3)

The Guards mounted a late-game rally and tied it up 3-3 in the 8th inning, but Trevor Stephan couldn’t hold the game and the Mariners scored three in the top of the 11th to take the lead and get the win.
