The Cleveland Cavaliers have a pretty solid lineup and don’t need an aging star.

The only players who should be pursued by the Cleveland Cavaliers are guys who can contribute to some degree to the new era of championship expectations. Guys like Donovan Mitchell make sense because they’re in the same timeline as the rest of the squad. Guys like Bojan Bogdonovich, and Jimmy Butler make sense as potential targets due to their elite ability or dynamic fit.

Guys who don’t make sense are people who are known for their egos, attitudes, and disruptions. Guys like Dwight Howard. Now, Howard has no fit on the Cavs. The team is loaded with talent the four and five spots on the team with Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Kevin Love, Dean Wade, Lamar Stevens, and more recently Robin Lopez.

Howard isn’t a name that is actually getting traction but Sports Illustrate did write up a piece recently, talking about how he could fit in due to his ability to rebound the ball in limited minutes.

If the Cavs were to go get him, what was the point of Lopez? He was brought in for the same exact reason, and unlike Howard, Lopez is a great teammate.

The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t need Dwight Howard

The Cleveland Cavaliers were a fine team last year when it came to rebounding, the team doesn’t need Howard to help with that. What it needs is Allen, Mobley, and Love healthy at the same time. Howard is a defensive liability these days, and one can’t justify letting him take time away from Dean Wade, a better defensive player than Howard.

Especially not with how bad Howard is at scoring the ball these days. His one-dimensional offense and limited defensive prowess have made him a guy that most teams, the Cavs included, will likely end up passing on.
