Perrion Winfrey appears to be in the dog house for the Cleveland Browns
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Browns will likely be without Perrion Winfrey on Sunday.
The Cleveland Browns revealed on Friday that rookie Perrion Winfrey was sent home and didn’t practice due to a violation of team rules. Winfrey, who had a mediocre debut against the Carolina Panthers, was expected to be a major player on the defensive line as a rookie, but the fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma is not off to a good start.
Many will jump to his defense, which is fine but behavioral issues are often a thing players don’t get past. Especially ones that earn such condemnation from his colleagues. Myles Garrett didn’t go into specifics about what Winfrey did but he was very clear by saying the young rookie was not acting as professional.
Garrett told the media;
"At the end of the day, he’s got to learn how to be a pro."
This could mean anything from a fight in the locker room, coming in out of shape, ingesting things he shouldn’t be ingesting, arguing with the coaches, who knows. It could be anything, we don’t know. What we do know is that it’s serious enough for head coach Kevin Stefanski to yank him from practice and seemingly get ready to not play him come Sunday.
While Stefanski did say he’s not sure if Winfrey will play on Sunday, a recent roster move suggests he may not.
Perrion Winfrey’s replacement may have been called up already
The Cleveland Browns called up Roderick Perry on Friday to help fill out the defensive line come Sunday against the New York Jets. He may have well been called up regardless of Winfrey’s issues, but the timing of which is far too convenient not to be intentional.
The Browns play the New York Jets on Sunday, a team whose offense is anything but well organized. If there was a week to lose someone that many in the media think is the Browns’ best pure pass rusher from the defensive tackle position, it’d be this week.
