The Bad

Special teams

The special teams are a mess. Not the punting and kicking aspects, but the rest of the other 10 guys. Demetric Felton fumbled a ball in the fourth quarter, that could’ve been a back-breaking moment for the Browns. The team got lucky that the Browns got the ball back, but it would’ve been disastrous. Earlier in the game, the punt team blew coverage and allowed a fourth-down punt fake to be converted to a new set of downs. This missed extra point Cade York shanked is concerning. You can kick it from the Muni Lot but you miss a chip shot? Do better.

Secondary

The Browns’ secondary, for the second straight game, looked awful. So many examples of blown coverage to count, but a lot of it fell on Greg Newsome, Martin Emerson, and Grant Delpit. It’d be one thing if it was The Chiefs doing the damage to the Browns through the air, but it’s Joe Flacco. Come on. After Flacco beat the pants off this unit, the team should sincerely consider some mass cuts. This problem is only going to get worst against better teams.

Blocking

Joel Bitonio had a rough game, blowing several big plays and allowing the Jets to crunch Jacoby Brissett. James Hudson also had a series where he got exposed, and one specific play that allowed a player to get to Brissett’s legs. Jedrick Wills continues to look mediocre and Ethan Pocic fell apart on both the running and passing plays. The Browns’ inability to get the run game going until the fourth quarter when everyone on the Jets’ defense was gassed is a strong sign that the line isn’t as good as it once was.
