The Cleveland Guardians won their first playoff game of 2022, thanks in part to Jose Ramirez.

It wasn’t the most exciting game, but the Cleveland Guardians were able to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays earlier today by a final score of 2-1. The Guardians found themselves in a 1-0 hole after the top of the 6th ended, as Jose Siri took Shane Bieber deep for a go-ahead home run. Jose Ramirez, however, was not to be outdone, hitting a two-run bomb just minutes later to give the Guardians the lead, and ultimately, the win.

While eight hits is a solid effort by the offense, only two runs aren’t, and the fact Ramirez needed to carry the Guardians to a win is a concern most Guardians fans have about this year’s club. Are they able to win against the competition when they’re not all hitting consistently?

Well, if Jose Ramirez has a post-season to remember, he may very well find himself in the conversation for the best player in franchise history and if he plays well, and winds the World Series with his help, then it’d be even harder to deny him the top spot in that conversation.

A post-season to remember could make Jose Ramirez the Cleveland Guardians’ best player of all time.

Ramirez’s heroics may be a recurring theme for this postseason, and that’s a thing we’ll all be fine with as long as the Guardians keep winning. I’m reminded of Miguel Tejada winning the 2002 AL MVP on the back of his clutch hitting. There were guys with better stat lines, but Tejada’s heroics sealed the deal.

If Ramirez can continue his clutch hitting and the team gets to the ALCS or even the World Series, not many fans would sit there and say that Ramirez isn’t, at least, in consideration for the franchise’s best hitter. Yet if the team wins, then it’s fair to say he’s easily the front-runner to be the team’s best all-time hitter.

He’s already nearing the conversation just based on what he’s done in the regular season. Imagine leading the way offensively to a deep playoff run. It’d be hard to not put him in the conversation with the guys like Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson, Earl Averill, or Tris Speaker.

He’s already 10th all-time in home runs for the club, 8th all-time in doubles, and is nearing a top 10 spot in RBIs. He’s currently 16th (666) and needs just 85 RBIs to break the Top 10. He’s on his way to a legendary run with the club and with another six years of his play, he’ll likely break a few records.

If he takes this club deep into the playoffs with timely hitting would put him in the Top 5 hitters this club has ever seen and a World Series win may cement him as the greatest to ever swing a bat for the Guardians.
