The Cleveland Cavaliers should be happy they don’t have any Draymond Green’s on the roster

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team that will thrive on chemistry and comradery, something a Draymond Green type can easily derail.

By now everyone knows about Draymond Green’s assault on Jordan Poole at practice the other day. Thanks to a leaked video, we now know what happened and Green will seriously be punished for his involvement. Poole and Green got into an exchange of words, and Green walked over and invaded Poole’s personal space.

Poole pushed Green away and Green retaliated by slugging Poole in the face, causing him to drop to his knees and go limp. The video is horrifying to watch, as it was completely uncalled for and swift and immediate action should be taken. The idea that both men can remain on the team is a bit hard to fathom, as we saw something similar go down in Chicago a few years back.

Bobby Portis cheap-shotted Nikola Mirotic in 2017, which saw Mirotic miss two months of action before getting dealt at the trade deadline two months later. It turns out teammates who hate each other don’t play well together. Go figure.

Donovan Mitchell was someone who proved that point in spades after the Covid outbreak hit the US. His teammate Rudy Gobert killed their friendship by not taking the virus seriously and causing not only himself but Mitchell as well to be infected. The two never repaired their relationship and Mitchell was accused of freezing Gobert out on offense a few times.

Mitchell, for what’s worth, has more of an issue with the Green punch being leaked to the media than he does about the punch itself. So that’s a bit concerning. That said, this team has some of the best chemistry in the league and that alone makes this team a force to reckon with.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to have some awesome chemistry

The Warriors still have a chance to win it all, as they have talent and coaching, but the chemistry is gone now. No matter what anyone says or does, this is not a situation that will likely be resolved with hugs. Even Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal had to eventually divorce themselves from one another due to the animosity. Punches were thrown then too.

Personally, the punch is a far bigger issue than the footage leaking. In fact, I applaud the footage leaking. I’m all for players having the right to privacy when they’re changing and showering but the idea that they should be protected from this type of behavior is what’s wrong with our culture as a whole. Green should have charges pressed against him for what he did, and a season-long suspension is something I’d consider. This type of behavior has to stop. By justifying it, you allow it to occur more often and eventually escalate.

It’s this type of behavior that destroys chemistry.

An issue the Cleveland Cavaliers should hopefully not have an issue with. The biggest “threat”, to use such a term, to the Cavs chemistry would probably be Kevin Love, and that’s only because he’s been known to be pouty and disruptive with the Cavs when they were losing after LeBron James left. Love, however, was a model player last year and had zero outbursts.

So the Cavs have a great roster, and seemingly great chemistry, and as long as they can behave like men, and professionals, this is a team that won’t suffer any sort of catastrophic chemistry collapses as the Warriors and Lakers have seen.
