3 Sacramento Kings who can help cause a Cleveland Cavaliers losing streak
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Cavaliers have to deal with the Sacramento Kings after their win streak ended.
The Cleveland Cavaliers were handed a tough loss on the road in Los Angeles after the Clippers exploited their perimeter defense and pulled off a huge win, snapping the Cavaliers’ 8-game winning streak. Now the team has to reorganize themselves, re-focus, and start a new one.
To do so, however, they have to get past the Sacramento Kings, who are very capable of turning their eight-game win streak into a two-game losing streak. The Kings are among the best offensive teams in the west, even though their record doesn’t show it. They’re currently 10th in the league in points for (114.7), and even if their 3-6 record suggests otherwise, they are very potent.
Defensively they aren’t the team you worry about. They’re 25th in the league in points against (116.8), and while they’re not far off from the Cavs in scoring (CLE 6th, SAC 10th), they’re worlds apart defensively, with Cleveland currently third in points against (105.4).
Despite their defense being as bad as it is, the Cavs have to be mindful of their offense, as they can topple great squads. They have a squad of elite scoring talent, and these are the three they need to be most mindful of.
Three Sacramento Kings who will be a problem for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday
De’Aaron Fox
The biggest issue with De’Aaron Fox is no longer his shooting, he’s become a very respectable scorer inside and out. The problem lies with his inability or lack of a desire to facilitate the offense. He’s not one to pass and when he does, he’s just as likely to turn the ball over. Forcing Fox to move the ball is the key way to limit his impact.
Kevin Huerter
Few players in the league are shooting as well as Kevin Huerter. He’s hitting nearly 50% from the floor and hitting over 50% from three. He’s hitting that percentage while shooting nearly eight threes per game. Huerter, however, like Fox, isn’t one for defense or passing. Cutting off passing lanes to him will help ensure he can’t get the ball out of his hands in a timely manner.
Domantas Sabonis
Stats aside, Domantas Sabonis is the best player on the Kings. He’s the only player with a positive box plus/minus in both offense and defense, he’s second in PER, he’s third in points, 2nd in shooting percentage, first in assists, and first in rebounds. Defensively he’s really stepped up and will prove to be a hassle for the Cavs, but as he’s the only player who can play defense (besides Davion Mitchell), don’t expect Sabonis to overpower the Cavs frontcourt.
