Cavs Top 3: Evan Mobley’s most complete game of the year not enough in loss to the Milwaukee Bucks
By Chad Porto
Evan Mobley and the Cleveland Cavaliers fell short on Wednesday to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are 8-6 and have dropped five in a row. The Cavs came into Milwaukee short-handed, with Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade out. That right there should’ve been all we needed to know, as they are arguably the two best defensive players the team has at the moment, at least in terms of practical efficiency and not upside.
When it comes to potential and upside, that’s all Evan Mobley. Mobley has, for lack of a better expression, been uneven all year. He’s far from a bust, nor is he trending that way, but there are defensive outings where you just wonder if he’s meeting the challenge head-on.
Despite Mobley’s early season struggles, what we do know is that he’s not the only player who hasn’t played well on this five-game skid. Defensively, this team is in shambles, and offensively they’re not getting that extra pass in anymore. Too many times Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland are playing hero ball. And that works until it doesn’t.
The bench has gone belly up in the last five games, and it’s become more and more evident how badly the team needs Ricky Rubio back.
The Bucks manhandled the Cavs from start to finish on Wednesday, earning the win 113-98 to close out the night.
Cleveland Cavaliers top 3 vs. the Milwaukee Bucks
1 Point – Donovan Mitchell
When the team is streaking, having Donavon Mitchell check nine threes isn’t the way to go. Especially when he’s only hitting one of three. Mitchell finished with 23 points, three assists, and two rebounds on the night.
2 Points – Darius Garland
Darius Garland may be the best three-point shooting guard the Cleveland Cavaliers have. He shot 5-9 on the night and finished with 23 points and eight assists.
3 Points – Evan Mobley
When you have the upside and hype that Evan Mobley has, he really shouldn’t be this inconsistent at times, yet he is. The big man finally had an all-around nice outing, 20 points, seven rebounds, and all on excellent efficiency. Not having Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade hurt this team defensively and that was obvoius with Mobley’s BPM.
