Cleveland Cavaliers complete four-game sweep in homestand

The Cleveland Cavaliers completed a sweep of the homestand after thwarting the resilient Portland Trailblazers, 114-96. After five straight defeats, the Cavs were able to turn it around and win all four games in front of their home crowd.

Despite erecting a commanding double-digit advantage by the second quarter, Cleveland could not completely shake off the resilient Blazers team. Fortunately, the Cavs never let up on the accelerator and raced to a 20-point lead late to shut out the visitors.

Cavs star Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 34 points, while Darius Garland added 24 markers to go with 12 assists. Big man Jarrett Allen also matched Garland’s point total, shooting 83 percent from the field while securing 13 boards in the win.

Portland, who played without superstar guard Damian Lillard (calf strain), Gary Payton II (core), and Keon Johnson (hip), was led in scoring by their own trio of Jusuf Nurkic, Jerami Grant, and Anfernee Simons’ combined 63 points in the loss.

The Cavs will look to keep win streak alive

Cleveland continued to be solid on the defensive end of the floor as the stars ramped up their scoring. The Cavs averaged 118.3 points per game while outscoring their opponents by a total of 66 during this four-game stretch at home.

Despite having a lesser output from the reserves, the Cavaliers continued to play at a high level as all starters tallied double-figures in scoring, with the trio of Mitchell, Garland, and Allen combining for 82 against the Blazers.

Forward Dean Wade returned to the lineup but the Cavs remained without Caris LeVert (ankle) and had to sit out Kevin Love, who has reportedly fallen ill and is still hurting from a right thumb fracture sustained two games ago. The team will probably need Wade, Cedi Osman, and even Isaac Okoro, to help supplement the bench scoring going forward.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, now 12-6 and currently in solo third place in the Eastern Conference, will look to keep the current streak alive but will have a tough start to another road trip as they pay recent tormentors the Milwaukee Bucks a visit on November 25.
