The Cleveland Cavaliers need to avoid the likes of Dwight Howard or Demarcus Cousins

The Cleveland Cavaliers don’t need locker-room malcontents like Dwight Howard or Demarcus Cousins.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are not a team that is overly in need of help at the moment. The biggest issue is that some fans see Robin Lopez as a liability, which he is. He’s also a backup, so I’m not entirely sure what fans expect from him. The idea is to have guys who can play well in relief when the top guys go down with injuries but the team can’t have every center be as good as Jarrett Allen.

So when fans start demanding that the likes of Dwight Howard or Demarcus Cousins get a call, I get very concerned. There’s a reason neither player is employed at the moment. Historically, they’re hard to deal with, even after injuries ruined their careers. They’re also not guys who are known, at least anymore, for their defensive prowess.

Bringing in either man will likely lead the team to have some issues gelling, especially when it comes to Howard, who offensively is a massive liability for a team. At least with Cousins, he can still get a shot off from outside the paint.

The Cleveland Cavaliers should stand pat and not make any major moves down low

When healthy, the Cavs have Kevin Love, Evan Mobley, Dean Wade, and Allen down low. That’s plenty of help. The team doesn’t need to bring in anyone to play the four or five, they just need to get healthy. When you start bringing in guys that are good enough to replace the likes of Lopez, they will end up demanding more minutes even after everyone gets back.

You’ll end up with a log jam at the position and people will become upset over their lack of minutes. It may not seem ideal, but the fact is the Cavs are in a good position right now even without Love and Allen.

Rushing to bring in a historical malcontent like Howard or Cousins who have issues staying on people’s good sides or just staying healthy, would just give the team more issues to deal with than they need.
