Cavs Top 3: Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland go cold against the New York Knicks
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Cavaliers could not ride Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland to a win over the New York Knicks.
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the New York Knicks on Sunday in a truly awful showing. The Cavs lost 92-81 and part of that was the awful shooting nights of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. Mitchell only shot 36% from the floor, while Garland only shot 26%.
The team as a whole shot just 23% from three, which you’d think was a truly terrible number until you realized that the Knicks shot just 17% from three. You’d like to say that the Knicks just outshot you from deep but that wasn’t the case. Nor was it an issue of turnovers, the Knicks had more.
No, the Cavs’ two best players just didn’t deliver. When that happens, they have to work others in and not be such ball-stoppers. Evan Mobley, Kevin Love, and Cedi Osman all combined for 36 shots. Not great for the three men.
On a normal night, that’d be fine but considering the stars had such an off night, you’d like to see them be more aware of their own struggles and be more willing to pass the ball. Due to the poor outing, we’re going to focus just on the Box +/- on the night for our Top 3.
In a bit of sad news, Dean Wade is out for the next month due to his shoulder.
