Hey we know you: Former Cleveland Browns QB Joshua Dobbs plays gallantly in pro debut
By Chad Porto
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Joshua Dobbs started for the Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night.
One of the Cleveland Browns’ very own former players, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, got his first NFL start on Thursday night, as he went under center for the Tennessee Titans against Dallas Cowboys in prime time. And you know what, hot take in coming, he did…just fine.
In fact, he had a Jacoby Brissett-like outing for the Titans. He went 20-39, for 232 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, with another 12 yards rushing, after just a week after acquiring him from the Detroit Lions.
Considering the Titans have bad pass-blocking, no real top receivers to speak of, were playing a great pass-rush team in the Cowboys, and were without star running back Derrick Henry, I would say Dobbs did fantastic all things considered.
He played better than the embattled Deshaun Watson did in his first start of the season, that’s for sure, and he did so after having to earn not one, but three playbooks along the way. Why do ex-Browns quarterbacks flourish under good head coaches?
There has to be a reason for that…
Joshua Dobbs should start the last game for the Tennessee Titans
Dobbs had a nice enough outing to warrant the final start of the season for the Titans. It’s going to be a big one against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it may very well be for the division. A Titans win in Week 18 over the Jaguars will somehow get them into the playoffs and if that’s the case, then Dobbs will be the first of the 2022 Browns’ quarterbacks to lead his team to the playoffs.
That’d be ironic.
Dobbs deserves a chance to shine, as he did play really well for the Browns in limited action during the preseason. He’s not going to make people think he’s Patrick Mahomes with his throwing skills but he’s smart enough and athletic enough to make plays, so he could very well be a matchup nightmare for the Jags next week.
A chance he appears to be getting unless Titans’ coach Mike Vrable pulls a fast one.
