Despite his mark being overshadowed, the Cleveland Cavaliers saw Kevin Love set his own record on Monday night.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had a night of major moments as both Kevin Love and Donovan Mitchell set records for the squad in the win against the Chicago Bulls. Obviously, Mithcell’s took the lead story spot, after all, Mithcell’s was not only unexpected but impacted the NBA’s history as a whole, unlike Love, who broke a Cavaliers’ specific record.

Love’s record was also expected, making it only a matter of time. During the first half of the Cavs win over the Bulls, Love scored his 2,481 field goal in a Cavaliers’ uniform. In doing so, he pushed Campy Russell out of the 10th spot and into the 11th, making room for the new No. 10 guy, Love.

Love could move up to 9th sometime next season if his 2021-2022 output is duplicated this season, and in doing so he’ll pass Larry Nance Sr. for 9th. He’s still around 460-ish shy of Nance at the moment.

That may not happen, however, as Love is a free agent after this season.

Bringing back Kevin Love is a solid idea at this point in the season

This version of Kevin Love can play another three or four seasons at a fairly high level, and should he keep this of production, he’ll likely deserve another deal. His shooting splits are nearly identical to the prior years and the only reason he’s scoring less this year is that he’s taking fewer shots.

He’s not fallen off at all from year to year and expecting this level of production out of him for a few seasons isn’t unreasonable. The only question is what is he going to want, contractually speaking and what will the Cavs feel comfortable offering

He’ll get another offer, but it’s a question of what is in the deal that will determine what happens next. And who knows, maybe he opts to retire instead. That’s possible, but I wouldn’t expect it.

Next. 3 things Ricky Rubio will be able to bring to the Cleveland Cavaliers when he returns. dark
