Jacoby Brissett

I’ll say it if no one else is going to; I don’t believe that Deshaun Watson can stay out of trouble for the next four months, let alone the next four years. Re-signing Jacoby Brissett is just a smart move for the team, considering that he nearly led the Cleveland Browns to the NFL playoffs, had it not been for his defense or head coach.

Sure, he’s not a world-beater, but I’d say he’s a top-25 quarterback at worst. Build the right unit around him and he can do some real damage. Not only is he someone who should start for a quarterback-needy team in 2023, he probably will. That said, the Browns should do all they can to retain him. He’s been a steady hand guiding the team forward.

By every metric imaginable, PFF, stat gawking, game tape, etc, Brissett outplayed Watson, and it would be ill-advised to move on from the best-performing quarterback you had in 2023. Plus, what are the odds that the Browns luck into another starting caliber quarterback who is willing to be a backup behind Watson?

The Browns can’t afford to lose someone like Brissett. Especially since a lot of people believe Watson hasn’t changed. He’s set to be deposed, and who knows what’s going to come out of that. Brissett brings stability and you can’t underestimate the value of such a trait.
