5 Predictions for the Cleveland Guardians in 2023
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Guardians have a hefty season ahead and we have some predictions we hope to see come true.
The Cleveland Guardians are coming off of a season in 2022 that saw them win 90+ games, secure the AL Central, and help cement Terry Francona’s legacy as an all-time great manager by leading a team for rookies and second-years to the playoffs.
Had the young squad had a bit more seasoning, it’s very likely they win that first series against the New York Yankees. The team is poised for some major work this season, and we have some predictions we think are going to come true.
We don’t know if these will necessarily come true, we’re more just setting expectations.
5. The Cleveland Guardians will have at least one Cy Young contender
Shane Bieber finished 7th in the AL Cy Young voting for 2022, and Emmanuel Clase was someone who should’ve finished in the Top 10. That didn’t happen, however, and both men were left looking up at Justin Verlander, who won his third Cy Young award. This year, Bieber should be gunning for his second Cy Young award but he may not be alone.
Both Triston McKenzie and Cal Quantrill are talents who could and more than likely will end up in the Cy Young conversation eventually. Not to mention, Clase is another name that should pop up and make some headway in time as well. Expect one of those four (or a mystery fifth) Guardians to end up with a strong case for the Cy Young award.
