Cavs Top 3: Isaac Okoro shines in loss to the Memphis Grizzlies
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Memphis Grizzlies but Isaac Okoro rose in the process.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been iffy for the last bunch of games. They’re just 6-4 over their last 10 games, and a lot of that has to do with inconsistent scoring from their top guys, injuries both nagging and significant to the unit, as well as a perimeter defense that is anything but great. It’s why a team like the Memphis Grizzlies, a good team but someone the Cavs can beat, was able to hand the Cavaliers a defeat on Wednesday.
Steven Adams tipped in the eventual game-winner in the waning moments, only to turn around and see Darius Garland get his last-second shot get blocked. While the Cavs lost and lost a game they clearly shouldn’t have, the team did see Isaac Okoro put together his most complete game of the year.
The Cavs are currently looking for a three-and-D wing, someone who can play great on the perimeter defensively and then can shoot threes as needed. Okoro is quietly putting together a tape that leads some to believe he could be that guy. Across January, he’s averaging three attempts from behind the arc per game and is hitting over 60% of them. His scoring average for the month is nearly nine points per game, and he isn’t missing a beat defensively.
This may just be a hot streak or it could be the young forward finally putting it all together. Either way, his place is something that can’t be overlooked.
Still, the Cavs fell to the Grizzlies 115-114 on Wednesday, dropping them to 28-18 on the year, and a date with the Golden State Warriors on the 20th.
