Cavs Top 3: Evan Mobley dominates the New Orleans Pelicans
By Chad Porto
Cleveland Cavaliers second-year forward Evan Mobley is maturing right before our eyes
It’s taken a few months but Evan Mobley has finally taken that next step in his development, seemingly coming of age right before our eyes. The soft-spoken defender has been blowing up opposing teams over the last few weeks and is one of the major reasons for the Cavs’ current five-game winning streak.
Since the five-game streak started on Feb. 2nd, Mobley is averaging 19.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, nearly two blocks, and just shy of 1.5 steals per game. He’s shooting around 55% from around the basket and has had a positive box plus-minus in each game over that stretch, averaging out to the tune of +16.2
Mobley wasn’t the only one who stepped up against the Pelicans, as Donovan Mitchell had 20 points by halftime. He’s not been that dominant as of late and the talks of MVP have trailed off, but it was good to see him get back to posting 30 points in a game. Isaac Okoro also had a huge step up in production. While he didn’t have one of his better shooting games, he pestered the Pelicans all day on defense, which is what the team needs him to do.
The Cavs won 118-107 and moved to 36-22 on the season.
